Recently, David Archuleta tweeted, “It’d be cool to learn how to surf.” That got me thinking. Surfing, Southern California, Beach Boys! Then I started surfing—web-style!— and to my surprise, I found an old Beach Boys song that made me wonder how many songs have been written about cities. Here’s a completely random list of five songs about cities with links to lyrics, audio, and video where available. You’ll be surprised by No. 1.

If David Archuleta ever writes a song about his hometown in the beautiful, majestic Wasatch Mountains of northern Utah, I don’t think it will sound like surf music, but I know the kids will ‘dig it’.
Now make a beeline to the previous “Type Bee”.

Neat O! I never heard of ‘Salt Lake City’ by the Beach Boys. Enjoyed this post!
I had never heard “Salt Lake City” either. It sounded strange hearing a Beach Boys ‘surf’ song about the Beehive State.
I got to hear the Beach Boys perform “Salt Lake City” live at a festival during the 2002 Winter Olympics. It was quite cool seeing Brain Wilson up close. That was a fun time in Utah. Maybe David’s Utah song could be about the mountains. His voice can make you feel like you’re soaring right over those mountains.
hey lyrix, that’s just what I was thinking too: David should write a song about his Wasatch Mountains. It would be iconic, like the “Sound of Music.” I can imagine the music video of David walking — running! — up the Wasatch trails, with the spectacular views all around. The camera goes airborne at the end to reveal David on top of the mountain.
