David Archuleta’s Christmas Tour – Salt Lake City, Utah

These pictures were taken from front row center when David was having a good time with his audience.  The color of the lights at that moment was just perfect to outline him on stage.  The best pictures of David are when you capture his smile.

It’s never too late to hear David Archuleta! One year ago at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, he performed “You Can,” while accompanied by his brother Daniel on guitar!! It was so neat to see David as the “big brother” introducing Daniel! You could tell David was so proud and happy to have his brother by his side.

View these videos of the January 17, 2009 performance. After the videos, read Richard Rushfield’s wonderful account of that night at Sundance. What an amazing year it turned out to be!

David Archuleta and the rest of the gang from Season 7 should have a group CD out, not this one!

American Idol Season 8 CD cover

What the heck is this CD??  I have been waiting for something to come out for Season 7 for ages and this is what they give us!!  Oh no, American Idol has lost it!  Only $5.00 (although it is only 5 songs – 5 too many for me).  If they had put something out for Season 7 they could have charged a great deal more!  Now if I have missed something please let me know.  Didn’t Season 7 sellout more of their tour than any other season? So why this one? Ok, I will try to calm down and find my way back to Walmart to return this one, haha I only wanted it so I could take a picture!

Song titles, Renegade, Whole Lotta Love, Aint No Sunshine, What Hurts the Most and Slow Ride.

It will be a fast ride for me back to Walmart and it won’t hurt a bit!!!!!

David Archuleta and Sammy Davis Jr.- Both a Vocal Prodigy

20 January 2010

David Archuleta has been compared to many great singers past and present, and while he is still very young with a great deal of time to keep improving and maturing his style of singing, I believe he has established a presence in the music industry which will last and be remember for years to come.

The following are comments extracted from one of MasterClass Lady Rosanne Simunovic’s reviews of David Archuleta’s performance at the ALMA Awards back in September 2009. The question had come to mind how does David fair with the classic pop singers of yesteryear?  How many even remember the singer MasterClass Lady is referring to – Sammy Davis Jr.?  Well, I certainly do, as I am in that age bracket and remember him very well. He was in the so-called “Rat Pack” with Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Joey Bishop and Peter Lawford, a group of fast and talented celebrities who frequented Las Vegas and headlined there for many years.

Personally, David has a much smoother voice for me to listen to and it’s difficult for me to be objective at this point in time as I feel he is the best voice out there today.  As much as I enjoyed Sammy Davis Jr., in time, David Archuleta will be better.  But again I may not be quite objective enough for most.  So I have found a great video for you to hear and watch.  As for the entertainer part of Davis, no one put on a show as well as he did.  As for the singing, David gives him a run for his money.  Take a moment and listen to Sammy Davis Jr. and then listen to David’s performance at the ALMA Awards.  The following is what MasterClass Lady answers to the question asked about great male singers:

Just a quick answer to FG who stated:

Would you answer a two-part question for me? How rare is it, at age 18, to have such proper technique? Would you say that, based upon what we have seen thus far from David, that he is vocally as brilliant as, or will be, the male ‘greats’ such as Nat King Cole, Jonny Mathis, etc?

It is very rare indeed to hear an 18-year-old MALE singer who possesses such a strong technical hold on his vocal delivery. Yet, it is even more rare to hear someone so young who sings with such depth and maturity. David is truly special and his talent, as I have said so often, is extraordinary. He is a vocal prodigy.

I feel that David will, over the course of time, be remembered as “one of the greatest pop singers” of the 21st century.

FG wrote:

Oh, if you will indulge me – who is, in your opinion, the best male singer of all time, or maybe top 3 if it is too hard to narrow it down…. Thanks!

For me, the best male singer in the pop genre has always been Sammy Davis Jr. His voice was timeless – it never aged, always sounded energized and vibrant and his musicality was extraordinary. Like David, he was a vocal prodigy.

Is there a next David Archuleta?

This young American Idol contestant’s video has been removed from youtube and other sites.  I am assuming it’s because of his upcoming performance on AI in the top 24.  Since I haven’t heard him sing, I have no comment on his vocal talent.  I wish him all the best.

Many will be compared to David Archuleta, but few will ever reach his artistry and talent. I will look forward to hearing how well Kelly places in the next few weeks.

from The Hollywood Gossip

“Aaron Kelly: The Next David Archuleta?”
January 19th, 2010 9:32 AM by Hilton Hater

Does American Idol have the next David Archuleta on its hands?

Granted, it’s very early to make that comparison, but there are clear similarities between Aaron Kelly and the season seven finalist.

Kelly is one of several contestants rumored to have advanced to the top 24 this year. He’s only 16, yet has a lot of confidence. On Aaron’s MySpace page, he’s referred to himself as a “Legend in the Works.”

Archuleta came across as more humble, of course, but both these artists got started at an early age.

Kelly landed an independent recording contract when he was 10 and won the “American Idol Experience” at DisneyWorld last year. This qualified him to audition for the judges this season and earn unanimous approval for Hollywood.

Critics are already comparing Aaron Kelly to Archuleta, Taylor Swift and Justin Bieber. All the hype is a bit premature….
