AOL Review of “Elevator”
by Sara D. Anderson, AOL Radio Blog
14 September 2010

American Idol runner-up David Archuleta, graces us with ‘Elevator,’ yet another hot single from his upcoming album, ‘The Other Side of Down,’ out Oct. 5. Driven by an acoustic-laden guitar melody and catchy percussion, Archuleta sings of pursuing one’s dreams and accepting the journey — not always knowing the outcome: “It’s an endless ride / Sometimes it takes you up / Sometimes it tears you down inside / But it’s the butterflies / That keep you feeling so alive, so alive.”

The uptempo track was co-penned by Shelly Peiken, Archuleta, and his guitarist Mike Krompass. To hear ‘Elevator,’ which follows Archuleta’s lead-off single, ‘Something ‘Bout Love,’ head over to AOL Radio’s New Pop First station.

Priscilla Renea and David Archuleta collaborate on The Other Side of DownSinger/songwriter Priscilla Renea has worked with a long list of musical artists, but when she began working with American Idol alum and Neon Limelight fav David Archuleta on his sophomore album, The Other Side Of Down, she noticed something special about the 19-year-old. “He’s one of the ones that kind of was like, even though he’s been through the whole American Idol thing and he had all this fame when he was 16 years old, he’s still the sweetest, nicest person,” she told NeonLimelight.com in a telephone interview.

David Archuleta: I’m A Dork
from Pop Dirt.com
16 September 2010

David Archuleta spoke with Popstar! magazine at the premiere of ‘Fred: The Movie’. The ‘American Idol’ season eight runner-up talked about being a fan of Fred, who is played by Lucas Cruikshank and having his new song ‘Elevator’ released to radio the prior day. “It’s a goofy, dorky song, but I’m just really happy to get to do music that’s more fun and I don’t want to be anything I’m not,” Archuleta explained. “I don’t want to pretend I’m this cool hunk or anything, I’m a dork. I just want to introduce people to David Archuleta, let them know it’s okay if they’re not the cool, cookie-cutter model of someone. You can be who you are and you don’t have to be the coolest person to be successful.”

You can try to listen to this PopStar Magazine vid on YouTube, but there is a lot of background chatter. 🙁

New Honeybee beccakayy has asked me to share some of her great photos of David Archuleta. She was at last Sunday’s Delta Fair & Music Festival in Memphis. Below most of the pictures is a comment from Becca. These are some of my favorites, but you can see all of them on Becca’s Facebook. To view a larger size, click on the photo. Enjoy!

Touch My Hand!!! (he touched mine)! Watch on YouTube.

so this girl screams out that it’s her birthday today. David’s like “oh really? who else’s birthday is it today?” and seriously, like half the people there raised their hands. He’s like, ” What! Really? It’s all your birthdays today? WOW! Well happy birthday… to everyone here…”

So then David was like, “There’s a really big banana over there.” And he starts asking someone in the audience where he got it. It was like a giant stuffed banana. “I’ve never had a banana in the audience before…”

BeBot—Robot Synth for iPhone

from Brian Beam macworld.com App Guide
24 August 2010

BeBot, Robot Synth for iPhoneDoes David Archuleta have BeBot on his iPhone? Somebody, ask him quick. Looking into my crystal ball, I see David Archuleta and the well-dressed Mr. BeBot together onstage. You’ll see in the video below that Mr. BeBot almost has the ‘hunker-down’ down, but I think his vocals are mostly pantomimed. David could teach him a thing or two about vocal technique, while Mr. Bebot might show David how to dance like a robot.

Writes Brian Beam for MacWorld, “At first glance, the $2 BeBot simply presents a fun retro style robot character. As you run your fingertip along the screen of your iPhone or iPod touch, you can produce sound and make the robot dance and sing. This alone can entertain a three-year-old (or the three-year-old in you) for hours. What’s not so apparent, though, is that underneath it all, BeBot is a very powerful, four-voice synthesizer.”

Here’s a great video introduction.

Expedia announces 500 singing jobs

from Faircitynews.com
10 August 2010

This story from Expedia gives me an idea. Maybe I could hire David Archuleta to sing an a cappella “dot com” for DAHoneybees.com. That would certainly draw every last David Archuleta Arch Angel and DA Honeybee to this website and would no doubt crash my server. But it would be so worth it!

Singers for Expedia dot-comSpringfield, MO—In a news conference held last week, Expedia Inc. announced it will expand its digital voice in Springfield by adding approximately 500 singing jobs. The company is looking to hire people to sing “dot com” in teams of two or more for every page visit to Expedia.com. “The online travel marketplace is flooded with competition. One way to differentiate our brand is to use live vocal singers to actually project ‘dot com’ after each page load to enhance our customer’s experience on our site, Expedia.com,” Cliff Trebble, Expedia Vice President of Global Vocal Strategy, said in an interview after the news conference.

…“The hiring process will take time. We may hire a few balladeers to start, then proceed to pick up yodelers and then songsters three to four months down the line. We have needs for baritones, sopranos, and tenors who are willing to sing at people browsing our website for 8-9 hours a day,” said Trebble.”

And the Music Beat goes on…but you may have missed MB last time.

DA David Archuleta Photo of the Week

Memphis music As a fan of David Archuleta, it doesn’t get any better than being able to see and hear him live. Last Sunday night I caught his acoustic set at the Delta Fair & Music Festival, an annual event in Memphis, Tennessee. He was awesome, amazing—every superlative adjective you can think of!

Photo of this week is…!

The Memphis Limelight

This Photo of the Week is dear to my heart because I snapped it myself up close & personal. It’s not a perfect photo, but nothing beats having a photo of David in your own camera. It is kind of like hearing him on your cell phone. It’s not the best audio quality, but David Archuleta is on your phone!

My Hands

I need to add “My Hands” to the list of songs that David sang for ‘me’ at the Delta Fair. “My Hands” was fantastic. The ending—well, the last two minutes—was very surprising and just amazing, showing how David can really mix up the tunes and melodies of a song and have it all blend together. When David has the mic in his hand, you just have to be prepared to be amazed!
