‘Moon’ is DA Buzzing’s Secret Word for the month of July (see sidebar). It’s the perfect word, not only because the zodiac sign of Cancer is ruled by the Moon, and not only because the Apollo 11 Moon Landing happened 40 years ago, but also — and of special interest to us David Archuleta fans — the word ‘moon’ occurs only once in all the songs on his debut album. As we read the lyrics of “To Be with You,” let’s remember astronauts Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins, and Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin Jr, those brave souls who slipped the surly bonds of Earth and landed on the Moon.
from “To Be With You”
by Kara DioGuardi and Emanuel Kiriakou
I’ve been alone so many nights now
And I’ve been waiting for the stars to fall
I keep holding out for what i don’t know
To be with you
Just to be with you
So here I am, staring at the moon tonight
Wondering how you look in this light
Maybe you’re somewhere thinking about me, too
To be with you…there’s nothing I wouldn’t do
Remembering Apollo 11
What I remember most is being at my first ticker tape parade on August 13, 1969. The celebration honoring the Apollo astronauts had kicked off early that day in New York City. By noon The Loop in Chicago was packed with thousands who wanted to glimpse the moon travelers. The festivities ended with a parade and dinner in Los Angeles. Three parades in one day: I don’t know if this has happened again since then. It was Moon Madness. I think it must be akin to ODD, because I know many Honeybees who would travel to three concerts in one day!
Boston.com’s has many wonderful high-def photos of the historic Apollo flight.

Minja, that’s such a gorgeous shot of the Moon’s light. I can hear David singing the lyrics of this beautiful deep-felt song, a homage to our mystical lunar orb and those human spacemen who sought to explore a part of the vast Universe. Apollo 11 made history in 1969 with Neil Armstrong’s famous quote, “One small step for man; one giant leap for mankind”. Just 3 short years later, Dec. 1972, Apollo 17 made the final lunar landing of the Apollo Program. Fortunately, David keeps the moon alive in our hearts with his songs.
