Celebra recently brought David Archuleta to New York, as the publisher prepares to release his book Chords of Strength: A Memoir of Soul, Song, and the Power of Perseverance. While there, he got to watch his first book covers come off the press.
Chords of Strength comes out June 1, and each of the book’s chapters begins with one of David’s favorite inspirational quotes, such as this one from author J.K. Rowling: "It is our choices that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities."

David is remarkably intuitive and perceptive, and not just about music as this glimpse of his book shows. This particular quote got me to thinking about how fortunate we are that David’s choices coincide so beautifully with his abilities. Some squander their gifts by abusing drugs and alcohol, or simply aren’t willing to put in the time to develop them, while others may have a passion for a particular vocation but, alas, not the talent. The longer I live, the more I have come to realize very few of us are fortunate enough to pursue our ideal vocations, whether due to circumstances or poor choices.
“…David’s choices coincide so beautifully with his abilities…”
Well said, Katheryn! Maybe that is why/how David always seems so centered, even when surrounded by mass hysteria! He seems to be able quite easily to have his head in the clouds, but his feet planted firmly on the ground. That’s a personality that will serve him well in the entertainment world.
It’s sad to think how many people spend soooo much time doing things they don’t really want to do. David, and all artists who follow their Muse, are the lucky ones. I’ve heard David say that he will never stop enjoying music, although he can give-or-take the ‘celebrity’ side of being an entertainer. That attitude will keep it real for him!
Can’t wait to read his book!
I am so ready for David’s book to be on the shelf and then in my hot little hand. I did not order it online, I did not want to wait for it to be shipped. I sure hope it is in a store locally.
kimbee, I know how you feel; however I did pre-order through Amazon. I live in the Seattle area, and I usually receive my orders pronto, so much so that I almost always select the free shipping option on orders over $25. Why pay for shipping when an order (if in stock) arrives two days after placing it?! Also, the pre-order price is $15.48 vs. $22.95. The publisher probably used pre-order info to gauge how many copies would be in the first printing.
We can also pre-order Chords of Strength at Barnes & Noble. Probably Borders and other book stores as well. That way you can be sure a copy is waiting for you on June 1!!!
